Bye,
Welcome back to the column #SMARTblog of Smart Generation!
Â
Today we compare two seemingly similar devices but with different performance and release years.
Â
The first is a 11.6-inch MacBook Air of 2015 and the second is a MacBook 12" with Retina display of 2015.
Â
They were introduced in the same year but have totally different characteristics: both aesthetically and functionally.
Â
The 11.6-inch MacBook Air with i5 processor (5th generation) with 4 Gb Ram and 128GB SSD, model with the iconic apple that lights up. Standard USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 2 ports.
Â
The MacBook 12"which we can define as the successor to the previous product, although it was introduced the same year it packs similar performance to the device described above, but in a thinner and lighter body with small additional innovations:
Â
The door USB-C (Thunderbolt 3)faster and also multipurpose (can also be used for video outputs and peripherals of any kind). The difference lies in the ultra-high definition display (Retina display), the backlit keyboard with the new, much more precise butterfly mechanism and a much shorter key stroke, and finally the force touch trackpad (the first version to support it).
Â
This product is equipped with a Intel Core M processor (modular processor) with 1.1 GHz clock and Turbo Boost up to 2.4 GHz. 8 Gb RAM on-board and 256GB SSD.
Â
On paper, the processor would appear to be less powerful than its predecessor, but in fact the RAM and hard disk are superior. In fact, this product, which is also thinner and lighter, with a new design also costs EUR 200 more than the 11.6″ MacBook Air.
Â
So, if you are a professional and want to carry your work with you at all times, the MacBook 12" is definitely for you. The performance is significantly higher than the 11.6-inch Macbook Air, the power consumption is low thanks to the Intel processor, and it is also thinner, lighter and easier to carry.
Â
If, on the other hand, you are a university student, have not yet entered the world of work and wish to save a little more money, we recommend the MacBook Air 11.6"which is still up to date today and is not very different in terms of performance from the MacBook 12"although it is the version that came out immediately before.
